Class up to this point

Up to this point is class I learned about the differences in the class from DS1 to DS2. One big differences is that In DS2 we are continuing our projects but will actually get to put them in place. In my project i am making an online ticketing system. This system will collect data to be used by tecks to fix the problems that will happen in my school. I will try to use this data to keep track of faulty technology to tell IM&IT what technology may not be financially worth buying in the future.

This is where I have made it in DS2 so far.

Why students should have a school network to manage

A network is a bunch of connected computers and devices that can communicate and gather information from other places. An example of a small network is the router you connect to in your house for internet. In most houses the routers are used to connect to the internet. but in some people houses there is a medium sized network like we have in our schools. This network is when you connect computers to computers and computers to routers to advertized different servers and web pages within the network but still have a connection to the internet. an example of a large network is the united states internet. where it spans the home united states. but it's still not the biggest network the biggest network spans every part of the industrialized world and is communicating and hosting the world markets.

Networks being one of the most influential parts of life today students should have an understanding on how to manage and run a network. This would also help the school with all the internet problems in the school if the students had their own network then when a teacher has a problem with showing us a web page in the internet we could use the other network to bypass some of the slowdowns in the schools network. one of these slowdowns being trafic. another slowdown looks like it is forced on devices which is actual limits in the connection speed. at school the fastest connection I have goten is  31 mbps well at home I get over 250 mbps. being the only wireless device connecting to both routers that I know of. Checking now (9:01 May 29) I also see miss use of channels. The router that i'm connecting to is reporting that out of the 8 channels that it is broadcasting 3 are being used. Another thing this could lead to is a class where students make web pages and create an intranet for the school to post and gather information about the students. Eventually this network could piggyback off of the district's website to broadcast different web pages as students.

That is just some of the vast possibilities that could come out of a student network at our school.

As I help teachers

problem
As i have moved around the school I have noticed some teachers need a way to have their cables neat
               Answer
If we had longer cable wraps that would push the cables in a coil that would unwrap when they want to plug these cables to a different computer.
problem
There is also a problem with computers resolutions being set wrong in the actual intell app to control the graphics card. when this happens the graphics card locks up and wont send any data to the smart bored. Both the computer and smart bored cant see each other.
               Answer
We should have someone go around and make sure the settings are correct on all the computers.                  but this should not be mistaken with the windows settings which cannot be set to high or the                          graphics card seems to lock up again.
problem
As I work on school computers I notice the internet is always slow. I checked the school internet speed and then the speed my computer is getting. my computer was at 1mbps and the school was just over 300mbps                    Answer
i don't know how to fix this.

Labeling

The Problem

I have been looking into a way to label the Chrome books so that they can stay labeled for the rest of the year or even future years. The problem is that the marker keeps being removed from regular use of the Chrome book. As you can see the marker is not working.

There is supposed to be a number to identify the
laptop, located next to the charging port.

The Solution
I proposed that we should use a label maker to label all the computers. The immediate response was that the labels will be ripped off by the students. When that was stated I told them I can get really high strength labels that would not get ripped off. Thinking that was a good idea I was faced with the problem that the idea had to stay on the Chrome books and it had to be removable. These seem like conflicting ideas but it's really simple. The labels won't get ripped off, for example a sticky note is staying on and has been for the time we have been in our new building. The other part is that the label might have to be removed at the end of the year. I can                                                                                       take a credit card and remove a                                                                                                                 label so I don't think that is a problem.

Why Marker???

This is something I really don't understand. The markers that would be used in school to identify laptops are getting rubbed off with normal use; also, if we do get a better marker it will be hard or impossible to remove when school is over. I would like anyone to answer me on this, I really want to understated why marker?

all city team for robotics

This is a picture of this year's robot for the First Robotics competition(FRC), but before we get to explaining the robot you should know what FRC is. FRC is a high school level robotics competition. Every year teams from many countries build a robot to complete a specific task. This year's task is moving totes (see the video).  We had six weeks to build a fully functional robot to compete with. Our robot has a forklift with 2-position opening arms to allow us to manipulate the totes and container. We will be competing in the finger lakes regional on March 26 through the 28th. As a city team, we would like to get support from the students so any RCSD students please come out and support your fellow students.

3D printing for schools

As a first student I am very well introduced to new technology. One of my favorite pieces of technology is the 3D printer. It is so cool that you can print stuff that you literally just designed. Naturally I was happy when 3D Systems gave my first robotics team rock city robotics a 3D printer. After getting the 3D printer one of my mentors on the team played with it but could not get his designs to print on the printer. I, with great trouble, figured out why the printer was not printing. This printer is hard to set up but after this printer is set up it works without a problem and is a great learning platform for anyone who wants to go into engineering. As a FRC student I will be using the printer for prototyping parts for the robot that we build every year. In the classroom the 3D printer could be used for printing out whole designs that students make on the computer. This would be a cool and fun way to get students interested in engineering. Ms. slack, the technology teacher at my school, said, "I want one for my classroom! It would be so cool to have students design something on the computer and then get to watch it print." Having used this piece of technology I see the great benefit for our students to have use of a 3D printer.

In Digital solutions 1 so far we only have set up communication and figured out how to use
E-learning. The only assignments we have done were to get this blog up and running. First with are blogs we researched other blogs to see the good and bad that has were being done on them. Using the information we gathered we made a rule brick to grade our blogs.

another thing that we have done is started to learn how the tickets will be filled for any technology problems that the school runs in to. So far we are ignoring the tickets that are for neatening the cables giving the teachers time to set there rooms the way we want. after all the rooms are settled we will go threw every single room and tie them up so they are not hanging.
